Meersbrooke Reserve

This stunning 41ha private reserve of Native NZ beech forest, is protected by an open space covenant through the Queen Elizabeth ll national trust. This means it is no longer grazed by stock, and is kept in its natural state in perpetuity.

Unlike much of the beech forest in the Ruahine Forest park area, Meersbrooke reserve is of flat to gentle rolling contour, allowing all riders to easily enjoy its tracks. The area was selectively logged in the early twentieth century, but many huge trees remain. The vegetation is a great example of NZ native beech forest at this altitude, and regeneration of the area is clearly visible. Abundant birdlife is a feature of the reserve, with NZ pigeons (Kereru) seen most days.
