Alan & Liz, with help from youngest daughter Sacha, own
& operate Ruahine Adventure Horsetreks. They’ve bred the well known Meersbrooke sport horses &
ponies since 1987, and have a wealth of equestrian knowledge and experience. Alan has years of experience breaking in both harness and riding
horses, and holds an owner trainer license for TB racehorses. He’s been
involved with driving Clydesdales for over 20 yrs and has mustered much of
the country you’ll ride through. He’s the resident farrier, and head guide
for the multiday treks. |

Liz has worked with racehorses, horse trekking camps and as an equine
studies tutor to secondary students. She’s a qualified riding instructor with
over 25 yrs experience and has a wealth of experience handling young horses.
Liz handles the admin side of the horse trekking, and usually guides the
shorter treks, especially those with beginners or children, and school
groups. |

Sacha is very involved with breaking in and working the young
horses. She does all their early ridden work under saddle. She’s a keenly
competitive rider, specializing in show jumping and show hunter, and has had
placings in national series classes and competitions. Sacha’s also ridden
track work and pre-trained racehorses. Sacha helps guide many of the treks. |
